Description

Over the last three generations, the number of learned languages has grown dramatically and become more diverse across Europe. There is a higher percentage of younger people learning secondary languages than older generations, and they are learning more types of languages. Not surprisingly, the English language is dramatically increasing in prevalence.

This visualization evaluates the total percentage of secondary languages spoken by a country's inhabitants (our Secondary Language Score). For some EU countries, the a majority of the population speaks more than one secondary language!
